Heavy Lift Octocopter: 8-Axis 16-Rotor Architecture

Sixteen thrust points instead of eight. Cooler motors, real rotor redundancy, and finer attitude control in gusty conditions — the configuration behind every model above 300 kg in our range.

Architecture

Why eight axes and sixteen rotors

A heavy lift octocopter spreads the same total thrust across more motor-propeller pairs. Each pair works less hard, runs cooler, and carries a smaller share of the load. Three consequences matter in the field:

Thermal margin. Motors that run cooler sustain longer duty cycles. On a construction site, the limiting factor is rarely peak payload — it is how many sorties you complete before something needs to cool down.

Redundancy. With sixteen rotors, losing one does not end the flight. Over people, structures or ridgelines, that margin is the difference between a compliant operation and an unacceptable one.

Attitude control. More thrust points mean finer authority in gusty conditions and a calmer hover during precision payload release.

Configuration Trade-offs

Octocopter vs hexacopter vs quadcopter

More axes is not automatically better. It is heavier, larger and more expensive to ship. Here is the honest comparison.

FAQ

Octocopter questions

No. A hexacopter carries a comparable payload on a smaller, lighter airframe, which reduces battery mass per kilogram delivered. Octocopters win when redundancy, wind tolerance and thermal margin matter more than transport footprint and cost.
Eight arms, each carrying two motor-propeller pairs (coaxial or offset depending on the model). Sixteen thrust points in total. This spreads load across more motors than a simple eight-motor layout.
Better than lower-axis configurations because more thrust points give finer attitude authority. The practical limit still depends on payload, propeller size and gust profile. We provide the operating envelope for each model.
Yes, with payload derating. Our LY400 octocopter delivered 410 kg at 2,788 m and has flown cargo routes at 4,200 m and 4,300 m. The derating curve for your specific site is something we calculate before you buy.
